NAKEDNESS AND MAHA NIRVANA

Dear Balarishi,
Naaga Babas are found to be naked. Is there any connection between Spirituality and Nakedness?

Among those in the spiritual path, a few have always been naked. The Thigambaras, a few siddhas Naga Babas,Saints like Sri Sadhashiva Bramendhra were all in this state.

Now who can afford to be naked? Only those who can leave their own identities can be naked. A person is always conscious about his own identities. As he cares about how he looks, what is his complexion, he is also much conscious about his attires. In social level it is believed that the dress is half of the man. So a person`s caliber and qualifications are judged by what he wears. So a person covers his inner nature with ego and external cover is his dress.

As a person keeps on accumulating his identities in so many ways, a person being naked signifies the fact that he is beyond his own identities. It does not mean that all those who are naked in spiritual path are realized. Some would have realized and others would be in that process.

The nakedness of a spiritual person can be equated to the innocence of a child. If one person or a group of people choose to lead their life in nakedness, it is natural that the society is puzzled or surprised. But what is more important is, they are not bothered about their own nakedness. It does not emerge as a disturbance in their mind. So it will not affect others. This childlike innocence is not out of ignorance. On the other hand, they have crossed all good and bad aspects praise and insult and any such dualities. They have rise beyond such things and reached that stage of child like nature. The bliss in spirituality manifests in so many  levels from different individuals. Some express it as wisdom. Some express it as grace. Some express it as innocence.

In spirituality, the ultimate liberation is referred as Maha Nirvana. Some symbolize their inner nakedness through the external nakedness. Some pursue the path for inner nakedness by starting with external nakedness.
