REINCARNATION AND REBIRTH

Dear Balarishi,

     You have told about your earlier birth memories. What is the difference between rebirth and reincarnation?

     When God descends on this earth, it is known as avathar. When an enlightened being comes again to this world, it is reincarnation. When a soul comes back due to the karmic plan, it is rebirth. Avathar and reincarnation happens with a sankalpa and a purpose. But rebirth is out of compulsion of the karmic arithmetic.

     Normally it is said that a child will have traces of previous life memories till it is one to one and a half years old. Later on those memories fade away and few vague strokes of resemblance flashes rarely.

     Re incarnation is mostly to continue the same path or spiritual work in more or less same situation. The association of the mission continues as though it is well planned. For me my affiliation and closeness to forests and chanting are very much connected with earlier life time. Even now whenever I read vedic chants for the first time they seem to be so familiar.

      As in Hinduism, Buddhism also has strong roots with reincarnation theory and many Buddhist monks reincarnate as per their own specifications given in preceding life time.

உங்களின் முந்தைய பிறவி குறித்து நீங்கள் சொல்லியுள்ளீர்கள். ஞானிகள்  மீண்டும் மண்ணுக்கு வருவதற்கும் மனிதர்களின் மறுபிறவிக்கும் வேறுபாடு உண்டா?

கடவுளர்கள் உலகுக்கு வருவது அவதாரம் எனப்படும். ஞானிகள் குறிப்பிட்ட காரணங்களுக்காகவும் சங்கல்பங்களுக்காகவும் மீண்டும் பூமிக்கு வருகிறார்கள். மனிதர்களோ தங்கள் கர்ம நிர்ப்பந்தங்கள் காரணமாக பல பிறவிகள் எடுக்கிறார்கள்.

 

பொதுவாக ஒரு குழந்தைக்கு ஒன்று முதல் ஒன்றரை வயது வரை முந்தைய பிறவி நினைவுகள் இருக்கும் என்று சொல்வார்கள்.  அதன்பிறகு மங்கலாக சில பூர்வஜன்ம நினைவுகள் மனிதர்கள் மனங்களில் மின்னலிட்டுப் போகும்.

ஞானிகள் மீண்டும் பிறப்பெடுக்கும்போது ஏறக்குறைய முந்தைய பாதைக்கு பெருமளவு தொடர்புள்ளதாக இருக்கும்.சில  ஆன்மீக சங்கல்பங்களை நிறைவேற்ற நன்கு திட்டமிட்டது போல் பிறப்பிடமும் பிற சூழல்களும் அமையும். என்னைப் பொறுத்தவரை  வனங்களும் மந்திர உச்சாடனங்களும்  என் கடந்த பிறவிகளுடன் நெருங்கிய தொடர்பு கொண்டவை. இன்றளவும் வேத மந்திரங்களை வாசிக்க நேர்ந்தால் அவை எனக்கு மிகவும் பரிச்சயம் மிக்கவையாகத் தோன்றும்.அவை என் கடந்த பிறவிகளில் மிகுந்த தொடர்பு கொண்டவை.

இந்துசமயம் போலவே புத்த சமயத்திலும் ஞானிகள் மீண்டும் மண்ணுக்கு வருவது குறித்து நிரூபிக்கப்பட்ட ஆய்வுகள் நிகழ்ந்துள்ளன.

SPIRITUAL SENSE OF SNAKES - 2

Dear Balarishi,

In last week`s discussion you had said there are few more spiritual attributes of snakes. Can you elaborate on it?

Astrology is one key area where the life map of each and every individual  comes to light. Among the doshas in a person`s birth chart, naaga dosha or raagu dosha are predominant. The planets Raaghu and Kethu are said to be in serpent forms. There are certain remedies to get rid of these doshas, in accordance with the karmic structure of people. This shows that the connection with serpents is something which continues from very many earlier births.

Kundalini energy is symbolised as a snake. In one way there is a snake into each one of us in an energy form. So snakes are connected with human in so many ways.

Apart from all these, if you see the materialistic life and spiritual life of a person one of the main barrier in these areas is fear. Yoga sutra lists out five afflictions (klesas) which are hindrances for human growth and fear is the major challenge among those klesas. Snake is an example of fearless nature. In whichever form there is fear you got to face it and eradicate its roots. Even if a big mass of people have gathered and a single snake is spotted in the crowd, the crowd starts to run away but the snake is fearless. There is a saying in tamil which says even a military force is threatened by the presence of a snake. Fearless nature is one of the key needs for spiritual growth and snakes represent that quality.

Today, killing certain animals are considered as criminal offence and rigid laws are made to prevent this. Snake is deeply connected with our tradition, spirituality and ecology. Out of insecurity and being unaware human beings might do away very rare species of snakes. So killing snakes should also be declared as a criminal offence. This will be of more help rather than just being curious through know about snakes.

கடந்த வாரம் பாம்புகள் பற்றிப் பேசும்போது அவற்றின் ஆன்மீகப் பரிமாணத்திற்கு வேறு சில அம்சங்களும் உண்டென்று சொல்லியிருந்தீர்களே?

மனித வாழ்வின் அடிப்படை அம்சம் ஜாதகத்தில் இருக்கிறது. நாகதோஷம் ராகுதோஷம் போன்றவை அவர்கள் வாழ்வின் போக்கைப் பெரிதும் தீர்மானிக்கின்றன.ராகு கேது ஆகிய கிரகங்கள் நாகவடிவில் இருப்பதாய் சொல்லப்படுகிறது. இந்த தோஷங்களிலிருந்து விடுபட அவரவர் வினைப்பயன்களுக்கேற்ப பரிகாரங்களும் உள்ளன. எனவே நாகங்களுக்கு மனித வாழ்வுடன் உள்ள தொடர்பு பிறவிகள் கடந்த தொடர்பு.

குண்டலினி சக்தி பாம்பு வடிவில் உருவகப்படுத்தப்பட்டிருக்கிறது. எனவே ஒவ்வோர் உயிருக்குள்ளுமே சக்தி வடிவில் ஒரு பாம்பு இருப்பதாகக் கொள்ளலாம். மனிதனுடன் பலவகைகளில் பாம்புகள் நெருங்கிய தொடர்பு கொண்டவை என்பதற்கு இவையெல்லாம் ஆதாரங்கள்.

இவற்றையெல்லாம் விட மனிதனின் உலகியல் வாழ்விலும் ஆன்மீக வாழ்விலும் வளர்ச்சிக்குப் பெரிதும் தடையாக இருக்கிற குணங்களில் ஒன்று அச்சம். யோக சூத்திரத்தில் மனிதனின் உள்நிலை வளர்ச்சியைத் தடுக்கும் ஐந்து கிலேசங்களில் முக்கியமானதாக அச்சம் குறிப்பிடப்பட்டுள்ளது. பாம்பு அச்சமற்ற தன்மைக்கோர் அடையாளம். ஒரு பெரிய ஜனத்திரளில் பாம்பு புகுந்தால் அந்தக்  கூட்டமே சிதறியோடுமே தவிர பாம்பு பயந்து ஓடாது. பாம்பென்றால்  படையும்  நடுங்கும் என்பது  பழமொழி. அச்சமின்மை ஆன்மீக வளர்ச்சிக்கான ஆதாரங்களில் ஒன்று. அச்சம் எந்த விதத்தில் தோன்றினாலும் அவற்றின் வேர்களை அறிந்து அகற்றுவதே ஆன்மீக வளர்ச்சிக்கு கைகொடுக்கும்.

இன்று குறிப்பிட்ட சில விலங்குகளைக் கொல்வது பெரும் 

குற்றமாகக் கருதப்படுகிறது. நம் ஆன்மீக மரபுடன் பல விதங்களில்

தொடர்பு கொண்டிருக்கும் பாம்புகளைக் கொல்வதும் பெரும் குற்றமாகக் கருதப்பட வேண்டும். இல்லையென்றால் மனிதன் தன் அச்சவுணர்வு காரணமாகவும் விழிப்புணர்வின்மை காரணமாகவும்  அரியவகை பாம்புகளை அழித்துவிடும் அபாயம் இருக்கிறது. எனவே  பாம்புகளைப்  பற்றி வெறுமனே தகவல்களைத் திரட்டுவதில் ஆர்வம் காட்டுவதை விட இத்தகைய நடவடிக்கைகளில் ஈடுபட வேண்டும்.

SPIRITUAL SENSE OF THE SNAKES

Dear Balarishi,

Of all living beings, snakes are considered to be more connected with spirituality. Why are they significant in spiritual path?

Very recently, in this blog we discussed about people praying in different languages to God. In spirituality language operates only in a gross level. It is a tool for communication but it might not express what all a person feels. In that place, the vibrations and thought waves play a major role. Snakes are too good in understanding vibrations. They are sensitive enough to grasp the vibration of thoughts. See, one might think something and communicate something which is directly opposite. If you are somewhat sensitive, if a person tells all false rosy words and has some negative thing in mind, you will be able to feel it. But this sensitivity is not that active among human beings as their logical mind tries to interpret.

But snakes are accurate in grasping vibrations. Now many people argue on the point that snakes can hear or cannot hear. The fact is they need not rely on hearing as they can go with the vibrations. If a person is nearing the snake with an attitude to attack, even before he has made up his mind to attack the snake comes to know about this. Accordingly it indulges in self defense. People misunderstand that it is coming to bite. Normally snakes never take the initiative to attack anyone. People mistake snakes to be a threat to them and attack them. Due to this many rare species of snakes are destroyed and their numbers are decreasing. So human beings have become big threats to the snakes.

Snakes are meditative beings. We came in human form with a specific purpose and similarly snakes are here with a purpose. Though there are so many varieties of snakes, they have some qualities in common. Among these, cobras are the most sensitive ones. Snakes are closely related with siddha tradition. Forests and untrodden jungles are the abodes of siddhas for their secret and sacred spiritual practices. They take up higher practises, intense penance and research on herbs at forests. To ensure solitude they have certain shields known as kavasams. As they had manthra kavasams to protect themselves from animals and negative vibrations, they also had naaga kavasams, where snakes stood as the border warriors. The snakes are also the shields for some rare divine herbs.

Similarly certain siddhas also take the form of snakes and go into deep penance. As snakes live in caves siddhas also live in caves. There are few more dimensions of the spiritual aspect of snakes. We shall look into them later.

மற்ற உயிரினங்களைக் காட்டிலும் ஆன்மீகத்தில் பாம்புகளுக்கு அதிக முக்கியத்துவம் அளிக்கப்படுகிறது. இதற்குக் காரணம் என்ன?

இந்த வலைப்பூவில் சில வாரங்களுக்கு முன்பு, கடவுளிடம் வெவ்வேறு மொழிகளில் பிரார்த்திப்பது குறித்துப் பேசியிருந்தோம். மொழிக்கு உள்ள பங்கு மேலோட்டமானதுதானே தவிர எண்ணங்கள் மற்றும் ஒலி அதிர்வலைகளுக்கே பிரதானமான இடம் தரப்படுகிறது. தொடர்பு கொள்ளப் பயன்படும் மொழி உணர்வுகளை முழுமையாக வெளிப்படுத்தாமலும் போகலாம். இந்த  உணர்வலைகளை உள்வாங்குவதில் பாம்புகள் தன்னிகரற்று விளங்குகின்றன. எண்ணங்களின் அதிர்வலைகளை கிரகிக்கிற ஆற்றல் பாம்புகளுக்கு உண்டு.

உங்களிடமே ஒருவர் பேசிக்கொண்டிருக்கிறார் என்றால், தான் மனதில் எண்ணிக் கொண்டிருப்பதற்கு முற்றிலும் மாறாகப் பேசினால் அதை உங்களால் ஓரளவு உணர முடியும். காரணம், அவருடைய வார்த்தைகளை விடவும் எண்ணங்களின் அலைகள் வலிமையானவை. நாக்கில் தேனைத் தடவிக் கொண்டு பேசினாலும் மனதில் தீய எண்ணங்கள் இருந்தால் ஓரளவு நுட்பமாக இருப்பவர்களுக்கு அது புரியும். ஆனால் தர்க்க அறிவின் குறுக்கீடு காரணமாக இந்த நுண்ணறிவு மனிதர்கள் பலரிடம் சரிவர இயங்குவதில்லை.

ஆனால் இந்த அதிர்வலைகளை உள்வாங்குவதிலும் உணர்வதிலும் பாம்புகள் மிகவும் கூர்மையானவை. பாம்புகளுக்குக் காது உண்டா என்பது பற்றிக் கூட பலர் மத்தியில் இன்றளவும் சர்ச்சைகள் உண்டு. பாம்புகளுக்கு காது கேட்கிறதோ இல்லையோ அவை அதிர்வலைகளை நன்றாக உணர்ந்து அதன்படி செயல்படும். பாம்பை அடிக்க வேண்டும் என்னும் எண்ணத்துடன் யாராவது வந்தால் தொலைவிலேயே அவர்களின் நோக்கத்தை பாம்புகள் உணர்கின்றன. உடனே தற்காப்புக்காக சீறவோ கடிக்கவோ செய்கிறது. பாம்புகள் தாமாக எவரையும் கடிப்பதில்லை. மனிதர்கள் பாம்புகளை ஒரு அச்சுறுத்தலாக தவறாக எண்ணுகிறார்கள். எனவே பல அரிய வகை பாம்புகளை அழித்து வருகின்றார்கள். எனவே மனித இனம்தான் பாம்புகளுக்கோர் அச்சுறுத்தலாக மாறி வருகிறது.

பாம்புகள் தியானத்தன்மை வாய்ந்தவை. எப்படி மனிதர்கள் குறிப்பிட்ட நோக்கத்திற்காக பூமிக்கு வந்திருக்கிறோமோ அதுபோல பாம்புகளின் பிறப்புக்கும் நோக்கங்கள் உண்டு. பாம்புகளில் பலவகைகள் இருந்தாலும் அவற்றிடையே சில பொதுவான தன்மைகள் உண்டு. இவற்றில் நாகப்பாம்புகள் தனித்தன்மை வாய்ந்தவை. நாகங்களுக்கு சித்தர்கள் மரபுடன் நெருங்கிய தொடர்புண்டு. ஆளரவமற்ற அடர்ந்த வனங்களை சித்தர்கள் தங்கள் ஆத்மசாதனைக்காகவும் தவத்திற்காகவும் தேர்ந்தெடுக்கிறார்கள். அங்கே தீவிரமான ஆத்மசாதனைகள், கடுந்தவம், மூலிகை ஆய்வு போன்றவற்றில் ஈடுபடுகிறார்கள். அங்கே தங்களுக்கு வேண்டிய ஏகாந்த நிலைக்காக சில கவசங்களைப் பயன்படுத்துகிறார்கள். விலங்குகளிடமிருந்தும் தீய சக்திகளிடமிருந்தும் தங்களைப் பாதுகாத்துக் கொள்ள மந்திரக் கவசங்களைப் பயன்படுத்துவது போலவே, நாக கவசங்களையும் பயன்படுத்துகிறார்கள். நாகங்கள் எல்லைக்காவல் வீரர்களாக அவர்களுக்கு உதவுகின்றன. சில அரிய வகை மூலிகைகளையும் நாகங்கள் பாதுகாக்கின்றன.

சில சமயங்களில் சித்தர்களே நாகங்களின் வடிவெடுத்து குகைகளுக்குள் சென்று ஆழ்ந்த தவத்தில் ஈடுபடுகின்றனர். பாம்புகள் குகைகளில் வசிப்பது போலவே சித்தர்களும் குகைகளில் வசிக்கிறார்கள். இவற்றையும் தாண்டி பாம்புகளின் ஆன்மீகத்தன்மைக்கு மேலும் பல பரிமாணங்கள் உண்டு. அவைகுறித்து பிறிதொரு சமயம் விரிவாகக் காண்போம். 

WAS I A CHILD IN MY CHILDHOOD

Dear Balarishi,

In-recent week, you had spoken about children and their attitude towards life. Your spiritual life started in childhood itself. Was your childishness complimenting spirituality?

Well, the description of childhood is playfulness. Being playful is the nature of children. It is the utmost freedom they seek. If you are going to control them and suppress from playing, in later stages they get into so many psychological problems like depression and insecurity.  In broader sense, childhood is the most wonderful period in anyone`s life. Even though there are problems a child can be a child. If given a choice it comes out of agony and regains its playful  nature. This is not the same with an adult. If an adult is in pain he will become pain.

When I was a child I was very playful. When my spiritual traits came to light my parents as well as those who visited me found it to be a big problem. Because somewhere in common belief people assume that if at all you are in spirituality you have to look very serious. Whoever visited me were also very serious. It was in total contradiction to my nature. So, whenever I saw some serious people I was very uncomfortable. I remember avoiding a group of visitors as by seeing them I could know they were dead serious.

Now I was able to witness various emotions and intense feelings of human beings. This is because, those who visited me were so transparent and expressive to me. This is because of two reasons. One is they were seeking some solution for whatever problem they had. Secondly they had no inhibition in expressing themselves to me as i was a small child. So I was a silent and receptive witness to them. But this transparency vanished as i grew up. People became even more alert in my presence.

I retained my childishness though it was seen as a problem by many around me. But the childishness contributed a lot for my spirituality. Similarly what will happen if the childishness is suppressed in childhood?

There are two sides to this coin. People would either get depressed and dejected. On the other hand there is every chance for them to express this childishness in later stages of their life as this would be their longing. They would prove to be more and more childish and would be admired for this quality. As they get older they will become a complete child. Spirituality and child like mindset always goes together.
